Mission Beach, California

Only a 10 to 15-minute car ride away from the city of San Diego, Mission Beach is one of the most beautiful and active communities in California. The long sandy beach is surrounded by a boardwalk with gorgeous beach houses, shops and boutiques, restaurants and cafes, and the famous Belmont Park. This amusement park has several rides including a full-size roller coaster, swimming pool, surfing wave pools, putt-putt golf course, and arcade. But the park isn’t the only thing attracting locals and visitors alike. The boardwalk provides a great pathway for bikers, skaters, runners, walkers, and vacationers in need of a leisurely stroll. Pop into shops and eateries, and enjoy the San Diego laid back lifestyle.

As active as the boardwalk may be, the beach is buzzing with a wide variety of activities on a daily basis. And because the beach is so expansive, as popular and busy as it may be, you’ll have plenty of room to sunbathe or enjoy a game with your family and friends without feeling too close to other parties. After working up a sweat, run into the ocean to cool off, build sand castles with your kids, or walk along the coast making a pit stop at Crystal Pier with your significant other.

The casual seaside neighborhood offers several small bars and delicious restaurants ranging from breakfast cafes and ice cream shops to delicious seafood and famous Mexican restaurants. You'll also find quaint shops and endless options for keeping active and busy that you may find yourself never leaving the area. For those who do want to explore other options, the heart of San Diego is a quick car ride away providing top attractions such as Balboa Park, the San Diego Zoo, Seaport Village, and Gaslamp Quarter. Needless to say, Mission Beach is the perfect place to spend a vacation whether you are in search of relaxation and happiness, activities and liveliness, or sightseeing and exploration.

Over the course of the year, the temperature in San Diego typically varies from 50°F to 77°F and is rarely ever below 44°F. And because of San Diego’s lively and active atmosphere, even during the cooler months you can enjoy a wonderful vacation. In fact, you will find plenty to do here besides swimming in the ocean that most people prefer to visit when the summer crowd has departed. However, to get the very best of all the sun, sand and sea as possible, the best time of year to visit for warm weather is from early June to mid-October.

The summers are typically hot, sunny and dry, and winters are cooler and wetter. However, winters are still dry when compared with most other climate zones. Therefore, from March through May and from September through November you’ll find a mild climate, good air quality and low humidity, with far less tourists because there are not as many school breaks during these times. Rest assured that you will enjoy a fantastic getaway whether on Mission Beach soaking in the sun or exploring San Diego’s city life and all its top attractions, restaurants and shops.
