Lake Placid, New York is known for hosting the Winter Olympic Games – not once but twice. However, this lovely alpine town nestled in the Adirondacks is a wonderful destination during the warmer seasons as well. Travel to Lake Placid for its natural beauty, outdoor sporting activities and historic attractions.
An excellent time to plan a trip is between May to August when the temperatures are warm, and the winter sports complexes are still open. For hiking, autumn is the best season; though the temperatures may have dropped, it is worth it for the autumn foliage. November to April is the best time to experience the winter sports season in full swing but be prepared for single-digit temperatures. The shoulder months of September and October are generally less crowded, but businesses in smaller hamlets may be closing their shops for the winter season.
The main events are the Flaming Leaves Festival (October) and the I Love Barbecue Festival (July). All in all, Lake Placid is a four-season location with different highlights and attractions brought on by each season.
